Spaces & Accommodation
Centred around a magnificent modern straw bale roundhouse, accommodation is provided in two gorgeous yurts. There's a fully equipped kitchen in the log cabin with a small dining area plus a shower room/toilet and another smaller log cabin kitchenette with a compost loo and shower.
The roundhouse will very comfortably seat 20-25 people or to look at it another way, there's space for 8-10 yogis. Up to 6 guests can sleep in the roundhouse, whilst the yurts will accommodate a maximum of 12 guests between them.
Seats and fire bowls next to each yurt and a main central firepit near the roundhouse provide further communal spaces. The roundhouse and yurts are heated with wood burning stoves.
We may be 'off grid', but in terms of facilities you wouldn't know it! Plenty of hot water, a power shower, electricity in all the spaces and WiFi if required.View Spaces and Accommodation

What a special place this is! It was in exactly the location we were after for the Welsh leg of our road trip and the idea of a remote yurt certainly did appeal! The yurt was super comfortable and kept us cosy during some heavy rain. The view from the deck when the sun came out was fantastic. Kitchen cabin had everything we needed as well. Shayn & Nathan were great hosts and have created such a great place to stay. Totally recommend for anyone wanting something a little off the beaten track and different! I hope to get back... read more - 30 Jul 2018Kerry
Friendly and welcoming hosts, very knowledgeable about the area with great walking route tips (and friendly dogs who might want to join you!). The hosts are very respectful of you being on a quiet, eco-friendly holiday. It was cosy and peaceful in the little yurt for me and my best mate. Comfy beds for both and fleece blankets available to sit on the porch on colder evenings. The log burner is so effective and the view from the porch tranquil. We loved the hammock seats outside. The decor really adds to the relaxing vibe with wall hangings and ambient lighting.... read more - 18 Aug 2019
The yurt was an amazing weekend break away! Perfect opportunity to relax and explore some of the beautiful welsh countryside! The yurt itself was very nicely decorated and the log burner kept us nice and toasty at night. Nathan was a great host and gave us lots of tips of where to go walking and was very welcoming. Overall a great experience and we will hopefully get chance to go back at some point in the future! :) - 18 Nov 2018
We had an amazing 3 night stay in Nathan and Shayne’s yurt! Nathan gave us a warm welcome and tour on our arrival. We were blown away by the scenery surrounding the yurt and how self sufficient everything was. We’ve stayed in a few yurts before, but found this one really had all the amenities spot on! The kitchen, shower and toilet are on your door step, the fire pit and bbq are in a nice private area (also right beside the yurt) and the main log cabin has practically everything you can think of kitchen wise. We had plenty... read more - 28 Sep 2019
Such an incredible experience being so far off grid in the crazy weather that goes on when you're so high up. The yurt was so cosey with the fire on and even though it was minus temperatures outside we were honestly too hot at one point.
The lifestyle Shayne and Nathan have adopted is admirable and we certainly need more people who care so much about sustainability and don't relay on conviences so much.
The surrounding areas are stunning, so quiet and peaceful and some lovely walks to go on.
Thanks so much for the experience. - 01 Mar 2020
Shayne and Nathan were excellent hosts. They kept in constant communication before our trip and were very understanding when our plans had to change by a day. The yurt was cosy and unique and the surrounding landscape was fantastic to take-in in the morning with a cup of coffee! Nathan gave us plenty of sight-seeing recommendations in the area, but unfortunately, we were not there long enough to really explore. Will definitely be staying here again! - 23 Mar 2018
A very relaxing stay. Off grid and very peaceful. Very clean facilities including kitchen facilities and shower/toilet room.
The hammocks on the decking were great... lovely to chill out on after a day of exploring North Wales.
Literally the only noise to be heard is that of the woodpecker and cuckoo of a morning and an owl... which was a lovely sound to hear.
Shayne and Nathan although not there on arrival (as we arrived a little later than we expected) ensured we had all the information we required and Shayne came to greet us the following day when we were... read more - 19 Jun 2018Bethany
We had an amazing stay in Shayne and Nathan’s Mongolian yurt. It was beautiful and so cosy in the evening with the fire lit. We couldn’t have needed anything more as the set up is lovely with great cooking cabin and toilet and showers. A very cool place to stay and we can’t wait to come back again! - 04 Apr 2018
Beautiful location and wonderful hosts. Nathan met us when we arrived and gave us the tour and rundown of the facilities.
Lovely helpful hosts, we were given space to enjoy our holiday whilst never being far away should we need anything.
The kitchen is incredibly well appointed, shower is good and hot.

It’s a very relaxing retreat but with all the modern conveniences (WiFi, power sockets, power shower, gas hob and oven) while still being able to use renewable energy. They’ve honestly thought of everything. The thought and care shines through in the little touches. You won’t be disappointed. - 22 Jul 2018
Shayne and Nathan are absolutely amazing hosts - they were attentive and incredibly kind! They welcomed our dog with love and he happily played with their dogs as well! Our stay in their yurt has everything you want and more, we spent everyday either in the yurt, outside next to the BBQ pit or walking in the countryside that surrounds their home. It is beautiful, cosy and relaxing - highly recommendable! Thank you to Shayne and Nathan for making Josh's birthday special and very memorable! - 20 May 2018Colette
My partner and I spent 3 nights in Shayne and Nathan’s yurt, location was amazing, great to sit outside on the hammock chairs and listen to the birds. The yurt was cosy just such a great place to stay. My partner was ill one of the days and the hosts made sure he was ok which was really appreciated. dogs and chickens were also very friendly! Loved our stay. - 26 Jun 2019
You’ll love this place! Up on too of a hill, you can see the sunrise, sunset and moon rise. The changing weather systems make the scenery constantly different and interesting. The local village is super friendly as is the wee pub.
There is plenty wild swimming around, loads of walks and wonderful nature.
There is so much to do we ended up spending every day out the whole day but the yurt is huge and would allow for plenty of at home activities too.
Shayne, Nathan and all the animals are welcoming, helpful and friendly. - 09 Aug 2020
I stayed alone in Shayne and Nathan's yurt and had an amazing time. Whilst the weather and my health wasn't fantastic I didn't take many long rambling walks as I'd hoped, but snuggling in the yurt and it's beautiful surroundings was just as lovely. Nathan gave me a postcode and to warn others, if you are not coming in through the village as I didn't it may send you up a hill with a 'Cynwyd Forest' sign on the right as described in the directions, but it is not the right one! Nathan was patient and lovely with my lateness... read more - 07 Jan 2020Craig
I have had the great pleasure in spending a night at Ty Mam Mawr and also running a weekend retreat there.
I whole heartedly recommend this place for both time away and holding a retreat.
The environment is gorgeous and secluded with a beautiful forest walk and open fields right near by.
The yurts are a true delight to sleep in with ideal decor to match your get away in nature.
Shayne & Nathan the owners are some of the most wonderful people I have ever met and so accommodating. If you want to be on your own doing your own thing... read more - 16 Jun 2019

Visiting here for a retreat was very nourishing on many levels. The landscape was idyllic and captivating with some beautiful walks in nature nearby (and swims for those that dared!). Shayne and Nathan were excellent hosts who made the stay very comfortable and the roundhouse was a very peaceful and warm place to meditate. The food served was delicious and we ended up staying an extra day as we liked the place so much. Will definitely visit again! - 13 Jun 2018
If you are Looking to stay in a Yurt in a great setting look no further. I have never stayed in a yurt before and I am totally blown away. With a wood burner it’s a beautiful cosy place to stay. There is a small wood a walk away and Llangollen is only 25 minutes away. Will be back again! - 08 Dec 2019
What a wonderful place! When we arrived in Cynwyd we were struggling with baggage and so Nathan very kindly offered to pick us up and take us to the yurts. It was a nice drive up to the yurts and we were greeted with the freshest air I’ve ever tasted.. Nathan showed us around the place and explained everything perfectly, we had nothing to really ask him (other than when we realised we don’t really know how fires work). We stayed in the smaller yurt and it was perfect for the two of us, it heated up really quickly and... read more - 20 Dec 2019Rebecca
We had a fantastic time at Shayne and Nathan’s yurt - it’s a real haven in the Welsh countryside! The yurt itself is beautifully furnished, spacious (perfect for a girls weekend) and very very cosy, especially on a stormy weekend. The off-the-grid facilities are great and we could self cater very easily. Shayne & Nathan are incredibly welcoming and accommodating hosts - their dogs Ruby and Tilly even came with us for a walk over the hills. We will definitely be back for another adventurous weekend away from London! - 14 Oct 2018
Thank you for our fantastic "yurting" experience off grid. It was our first time in a yurt and it exceeded our expectations. Set in a fantastic location all the facilities were clean warm and beautifully decorated and the yurt was cosy. We enjoyed local country walks and the tranquillity. - 12 Mar 2019
Nathan was really friendly, and although we didn't have to interact a great deal, you could tell both Nathan and Shayne were incredibly attentive and helpful. The place itself is great and situated well for exploring. The yurt was fantastic, as were the rest of the facilities. It is the ideal place to escape stress and relax. - 20 May 2018Dione
The yurt is a fun and unique way to spend the night camping. Shayne and Nathan offer all the amenities you need when camping and the yurt is situated in a tranquil area where you can sit under the stars by the fire pit or relax in the comfort of the yurt. We hope to visit again with our kids. - 01 Jun 2018
