Ty Mam Mawr Off-Grid Eco Retreat Centre

Straw bale roundhouse and yurt from behind pond at Ty Mam Mawr eco retreat centre

Ty Mam Mawr off-grid eco retreat centre orbits around a beautiful straw bale roundhouse with luxury accommodation provided in two insulated and heated yurts, a log cabin with fully equipped kitchen and bathroom along with a smaller wooden shed with compost loo/shower and kitchenette by the larger yurt.

The roundhouse is a unique oval shaped timber frame straw bale building sitting at the heart of our retreat centre high in the Berwyn Mountains in North Wales overlooking the Dee Valley. It has many windows looking out onto the distant hills and nearby forests with magnificent big sky views.

It is a light, magical and powerful space…some call it a temple…with its reciprocating roof and central skylight that resembles a vortex to the higher realms.

The energy inside the roundhouse is light, pure, healing and playful. We wish to keep it like this and therefore do not allow alcohol, smoking or vapes in the space.

There is plenty of room in the straw bale roundhouse for 8-10 yogis to stretch out or for 20-25 folk to sit comfortably. Accommodation can be provided for up to 18 people (in 15 beds)  in the two yurts and the roundhouse.

We feel that the ideal numbers for an intimate retreat are 1-2 facilitators in the small yurt (2 double beds),  6 guests in the large yurt (1 king and 5 singles) with space for up to six more guests in the roundhouse on single mattresses. Further accommodation can be found locally in Cynwyd, Llandrillo and Corwen.

All our water comes fresh from mountain springs…pure energised medicine. Spaces are heated with wood burning stoves with firewood/logs and kindling available. There is a large central fire pit and another by each yurt.

Mains voltage (230v) electricity for sockets and lighting is supplied to all spaces provided by a renewable energy system using solar, hydro and wind generation. Internet access and WiFi are available if required.

Ty Mam Mawr off grid eco retreat centre is available for hire for workshops, retreats, seminars, team building and much more… please contact us to find out how we can help. Each of the spaces is also available individually or in combination.

Straw bale roundhouse at intimate off grid eco retreat centre Ty Mam Mawr in North Wales

The Straw Bale Roundhouse

It is a magical and powerful space…some call it a temple…with its amazing reciprocal frame roof and large central skylight that resembles a vortex to the higher realms…

The Roundhouse is an oval shaped timber frame straw bale building sitting at the heart of Ty Mam Mawr (House of the Great Mother), a peaceful and magical eco retreat centre high in the Berwyn Mountains in North Wales.

This space provides a calm and nurturing atmosphere that is conducive to letting go and allowing oneself to leave behind the worldly life.

Safely held inside The Roundhouse, we can sink sink deeply into our true essence, connect to nature and find the bubbling joy of being that is in our hearts.

With room for 8-10 yogis or 20-25 folk sitting, Ty Mam Mawr straw bale roundhouse is suitable for yoga classes, dance and music workshops, meditation retreats, seminars, team building events and much more…

When hired with both yurts the roundhouse will also accommodate up to 6 single mattresses.

Ty Crwn Mawr

Ty Crwn Mawr – Authentic Mongolian Ger (Yurt)

Ty Crwn Mawr (Large Round House) is a spacious, cosy and very comfortable authentic Mongolian Ger (better known as a yurt) with amazing views which can easily and very comfortably accommodate up to eight guests. It has a super comfy king size bed and six single foldable futon beds that turn into seats.

Fully insulated with thick wool felt and heated with a brilliant wood burning stove, it is beautifully furnished with lovely linens, wall hangings, rugs and fairy lights creating a warm and magical space.

The yurt is light and airy with a clear round window in the roof and a north facing door to help keep things cool on sunny days and hot summer nights. The floor and walls are well insulated, so it’s toasty even on the coldest of winter nights.

A basket of logs and some firelighters and kindling are provided. Further logs are available on request for £5 a basket. Firelighters and kindling are also available.

There is a secluded seating area and fire pit/BBQ to the south of the yurt with plenty of chairs and benches.

Right next to the yurt is a small wooden shed with kitchen area including a gas stove and sink, compost toilet and hot shower cubicle.

All pots/pans, crockery and cutlery, mugs and glasses are provided. We simply ask that you wash them before you leave. Bedsheets, duvets and pillows are provided along with plenty of extra blankets but feel free to bring more with you.

The log cabin near the yurt contains a fully equipped kitchen (including gas cooker, electric fridge, toaster, sink with hot and cold water), dining area and shower room with power shower, flushing toilet and sink. The log cabin facilities are occasionally used by us and the guests staying in Ty Crwn Bach Idris (our other smaller yurt) about 30m away but screened by trees/bushes and with its own seating area, fire pit etc. Exclusive rental of the whole venue is available.

In keeping with the ethos of our home, we have tried to use reclaimed/recycled/up cycled materials wherever possible.

There are standard 230v electrical sockets in the yurt and low energy lighting there and in the bathroom/kitchen which all run off renewable energy sources. So by staying in Ty Crwn Mawr you will be doing your bit to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.

If you need assistance with anything just ask. We are here to help and glad to do so. 🙂

After reading all the amazing review's on Nathan and Shaynes place we were super excited for our little break away, all expectations were met and exceeded. A beautiful space and such welcoming friendly hosts, you will not be disappointed. The yurt was cosy, clean and exactly as decipted on the photographs we viewed beforehand. There is a well equipped kitchen and fitted bathroom, though we did all our cooking on an open fire under the stars- absolute bliss. Llangollen is a beautiful town just 20 minutes drive away, we would recommend there for a day out! Though the ground and... read more 15 Feb 2019

Perfect style for a glamping stay and the kitchen and bathroom area are well- stocked, warm, and perfect for making creature comforts such as cold wine in the evening and a hot cuppa in the morning possible! Location is great; up a narrow track but keep your foot on the gas and you'll get there in the end! Worth it for the stunning location. Memorable stay, thanks x 06 May 2019

What a top place! We’ve had a quick family break (2 adults, 3 kids age 9,10,13) and we’ve loved every minute of Yurt life! The Yurt itself is fantastic and a great space. Brilliantly decorated, a cosy warm stove and outside area for fires, seating. The facilities are all thoughtfully done with attention paid to being self sufficient as you are off grid. You wouldn’t know this though as you have all you need. The area itself is off the beaten track and you need to drive to access shops, eating etc but there is also a well equipped kitchen... read more 28 Apr 2019

What a fabulous place to stay. Exactly as advertised: a warm and cosy yurt! We couldn’t have asked for more. The log burning stove in the yurt was more than enough to keep us toasty warm at night. The location is in a stunning part of Wales with beautiful views to observe and explore. The facilities extremely clean and well-kept whilst being environmentally friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others. Thank you for being so accommodating Nathan! 16 Apr 2019

Just back from my wonderful week away solo stay in Shayne & Nathan's yurt. Secluded enough to feel cut off from it all but with all the amenities you could possibly need for a longer stay, it's nestled in a stunning location with plenty of excellent walks on your doorstep. The yurt itself was sizeable, homely and it didn't take long for me to settle in. Words do not exist to explain the utter brilliance of the yurt!

The views are spectacular, great location to travel and see the many sights in Wales.

The site it’s self and facilities are clean and well kept. We were very warm in the yurt with the duvet provided (there are extra blankets if you get cold). We loved our visit and will be back again in the future !
